Women in the Bible

Women of God

The Bible highlights women from the first, the mother of all women Eve in the Old Testament, to the early Christian women in the New Testament.

Both earthly 'good' and 'bad' examples are highlighted. We can learn something about women from all the examples given in the Bible. Sometimes, at surface glance, we see only the bad side of them. However, upon closer reflection and deliberation, you will see the gem in everyone of them.

What does this tell us about being a woman of, and a woman for God? That salvation is truly a FREE gift from God, nothing we do will ever merit it and that we can only do good as He leads.

Women in the Old Testament

How did God lead them to be who they were for Him? What truths about womanhood can we learn from them? We have farmers' wives, queens willing or unwilling, married women, widows with their widowed daughters-in-law, slaves, prosititutes, the faithful and the unfaithful to both their man and God.

Why does God allow the Bible which is to be holy to hold accounts of both the righteous and the unrighteous women. It does ring of God's grace and mercy, does it not?

The Old Testament accounts of women and their lives tell us time and again that God knows our hearts better than we do and that from the beginning His plan of salvation is already at work for all of mandkind. His grace is forever.

27 May 2009 A new look at Eve.... What if....

It is often said that Eve tried to put the blame on the snake. But have you ever realized that when God talked about the tree of good and evil and that its fruit should not be eaten, that He was speaking only to Adam? (Genesis 2:8-18)

What went wrong? Was Adam so bedazzled by God's present to him that he forgot God's Word and failed to lead his family properly?

We often put the blame on Eve or the Devil for the fall of Man. Think again. Women have the power to influence men to sin. (Samson and the prostitute, Abraham and Sarah, Adam and Eve, your hubby and you?) And vice versa.

It is well and good that Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross was not meant for Eve alone but for all womankind.

WOMEN IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

The New Testament women were not unlike those in the Old Testament - there were women of all temperament and make, even after they became Christians.

Becoming a Christian does not make a sudden saint in us. It just reinforces the fact that we human beings cannot save ourselves and that because of our sins we are but dirty rags in the eyes of God, though He loved us so much, without the grace of Jesus Christ.

28 May 2009 Mary Magdalene

Little is said about Mary Magdalene in the Bible except that she was saved from being stoned to death for prostitution and that she was the first to see Jesus when He arose triumphantly from Hell.

Some gossipers from modern time and I am sure, from the time she was delivered from her painful death, claim her to be the Savior's lover. Perhaps so, but in a holy way. To me, the relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene shows the love of Jesus for His Bride, the Church - pure, blameless, non-judgemental. As a woman myself, this Biblical relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene has been a model for me in building relationships between my Lord and me as well as between men and myself.

I am part of the Church who are described as the Bride of Christ. When my husband and I reach heaven, he will no longer be my husband but my brother in Christ and we will have only have that one relationship. The old on Earth will have passed away and we will be in a new Heaven that the Groom of the Church is preparing. All fleshly desires would have died with the passing away of the Earth that we now inhabit. Isn't that wonderful?

Hi Tony, That's a very good question which I suppose only time will answer. At the moment my insights are limited only to these two women and I've nine more on the list to study. I suppose the list will go on, in the same zone till I run out of bytes here. Thanks for the suggestion, though. It'll be something to chew on during my two-week vacation.

Very nice zone and so much potential, far too much to put into one zone. I wondered if you were planning to create articles on each major figure, and link to these, rather than just add them all into one zone? You could end up with a whole site worth of pages linking back and forth to each other.

Hi Cynthia, Could we link your How to be saved (how to become a Christian)zone here? It'd be great that if an unbeliever happens to stumble upon this page also stumbles upon being saved.

These thoughts came in my quiet moments reading and comtemplating God's Word, usually on my long holidays abroad when my son's asleep and I have ears all for God's promptings. They help me realize that God's Word and God indeed is very much alive. May you be blessed reading them and be encouraged to dig deeper into his Word, even if you've read the Bible through ten times. - Mun

Awesome Zone Mun! You have done some serious studies on Eve and her fall. I appreciate reading from a woman's perspective on this subject. It is not often that we get to read about Eve from a woman's perspective and it is very refreshing! Thanks!

This is wonderful! Your study of Eve is refreshing. She is often portrayed as the villainess. God punished her differently and separately from Adam. Many women never learn that story. Wonderful Zone, Mun!

This zone represents my personal studies and reflections on the women in the Word of God. More write-ups will be added in due time. May my thoughts greatly enrich your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and if you are a woman, help you realize that you have been bought with the Blood of Jesus, just as Mary Magdalene and I have been. May the God Lord bless you. Mun
